Dead Horse Point Overlook


  So why the weird name for this place? It seems that a long time ago, there were folks that would round up some of the wild horses that populated the area and herd them onto this desolate hunk of rock. The point is shaped like a peninsula. The people had built a fence across the narrow neck of the peninsula thus making a corral of sorts. Then they would return later to transfer the horses to a new location. Somewhere along the line, a group of these people forgot about a herd and they were left to die of hunger and thirst within sight of the lush banks of the Colorado river several thousand feet below.


  I climbed to this highest point on the point for this shot. I like the inclusion of the vehicles for something familial to contrast with the scope of the scenery.

  This is the Colorado River. While we have been standing here, quite a few boats have passed through this bend. This is also a nice shot of the stratification in the ground, cool. By the way, the green stuff down there is trees and not bushes!
